Data Engineering Intern

New Delhi (on-site) Full-time

Company Description

Cogn'AI'tive is an AI consultancy focused on delivering practical, production-grade solutions rather than presentations and prototypes. The company builds software-as-a-service products and service-as-a-service systems across domains such as video intelligence, 3D product try-on, manufacturing analytics, and logistics platforms. Its teams engineer solutions end-to-end so clients can deploy effective AI from day one. Applicants can expect to work in a setting that values real-world impact, robust engineering, and collaborative problem solving.

Role Description

The Data Engineering Intern will build and maintain the data that powers Cogn'AI'tive's AI products, from raw client documents, images and records to clean, labelled datasets ready for models, analytics and production systems.

Day-to-day tasks include:

  • collecting, cleaning and organising structured and unstructured data from multiple sources (scanned invoices and documents, images and video, spreadsheets, ERP and accounting exports, databases);
  • checking AI outputs against real-world ground truth, for example verifying what an OCR or vision model extracted from a document against the original, and logging each error with its likely cause;
  • preparing labelled training and evaluation datasets, and running scoring scripts that measure model accuracy across versions;
  • assisting with data modelling, schema design and import pipelines with validation checks;
  • diagnosing data quality issues and reporting patterns that help engineers improve models and parsing rules;
  • documenting datasets, data structures and processes clearly.

The intern will work closely with engineers and the founder across live client projects. Interns also get hands-on exposure to agentic AI frameworks, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) systems and LLM evaluation, with mentoring to build them.

This is a full-time, on-site role based in New Delhi.

Qualifications

  • Strong data analysis skills for interpreting datasets and spotting errors and inconsistencies.
  • Very high attention to detail and patience for careful, repetitive verification work, especially with numbers.
  • Solid data management skills for organising, cleaning and maintaining structured and unstructured data.
  • Foundational data modelling skills for designing schemas that support analytical and AI workloads.
  • Basic knowledge of SQL, and familiarity with Python (preferred) or another language used in data work.
  • Strong Excel or Google Sheets skills (lookups, pivots, cleaning).
  • Interest in AI, machine learning, OCR, computer vision or LLMs; exposure to databases, data warehouses or pipeline tools is a plus.
  • Reading Hindi as well as English is a plus, as some source documents are bilingual or handwritten.
  • Ability to document work clearly, collaborate in cross-functional teams and learn quickly in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to handle confidential client data responsibly; an NDA is required.
  • Enrollment in or completion of a degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Commerce or a related field is preferred.
